Creature Comforts

rodGGTYRecently I have returned from a family holiday in Tenerife and although the kids had a great time, myself and the Missus did suffer a bit with our backs and necks as the beds in the hotel were too soft and the pillows paper thin.

Needless to say we are home and getting some treatment to correct the discomfort.

I cannot stress enough how important a good night’s sleep is in a bed that is both comfortable and which supports your back. Not to mention pillows that also supportive of your neck.

When patient’s say to me that they often suffer from a stiff back in the mornings I usually ask questions regarding their beds such as how soft is the mattress and how long have they had it as usually a mattress needs to be changed every 7 to 10 years.

It’s personal preference when it comes to choosing a mattress, I personally like a hard firm mattress but others prefer something softer or a memory foam mattress/topper. As long as it is supportive and you have a comfortable night’s sleep that’s all that matters.

So if you are constantly waking with a stiff neck or back think about how long you have had the mattress and pillows cause as they say, “a change is as good as a rest”.
